It is with great sadness that the NC Office of EMS and the Healthcare Preparedness Program share the passing of Dr. Lew Stringer.

Dr. Stringer had a distinguished career in EMS and disaster response at the local, state and federal levels. Dr. Stringer’s service began in Forsyth County, where he was the first EMS Medical Director and served for 28 years.

Dr. Stringer was the principal founder of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) that contributed to disaster response operations across NC. From 1990 through early 2000’s, Dr. Stringer was involved with the US Public Health Service shaping the National Disaster Medical System. When Dr. Stringer returned to NC, he worked with the Division of Emergency Management as a Medical Advisor and with the Office of EMS as a project manager.

Dr. Stringer has impacted EMS and Healthcare on all levels. Thank you, sir, rest easy, we will take it from here.
